  IMPHOS At Work

Environmental concerns, and protection measures in some countries, mainly in West Europe, are more and more hampering the increased and sustainable growth of the phosphate fertilizer use, hence agricultural production. These concerns are addressed by the institute through several technical activities that include assessment and better management of undesirable impurities, heavy metals and radioactivity in phosphate products.

Its activities also encompass the development of Best Available Technologies (BAT) ; and the important work conducted on the removal of Cadmium from phosphoric acid is a case in point. The institute is now exploring ways to bring to the pilot and industrial scales the removal process developed and successfully tested under laboratory conditions.
