Structure & functioning
Policy matters and program directions are
decided by the Board of Directors elected by the General Assembly
for a term of three years. Board meetings are convened twice
a year and resolutions are adopted by a simple majority.
Sitting on the Board of IMPHOS are the Managing
Directors of companies which are current members, namely CPG/GCT
(Tunisia), FERPHOS (Algeria), ICS (Senegal), JPMC (Jordan),
OCP/PHOSBOUCRAA (Morocco) and IFG (Togo).
The Board members designate from among themselves
the Chairman and Vice Chairman. They entrust to the Secretary
General the responsibility for implementing the decisions
and resolutions of the Board and daily management of the IMPHOS
Secretariat General.
IMPHOS has its headquarters housing the two
divisions of the Permanent Secretariat in Casablanca, Morocco.
The Agronomy Division is responsible for the use of phosphorus
in agriculture and forestry, while the Technical Division
is in charge of phosphorus fertilizer production technology.
Environmental issues are at the forefront of the activities
in both Divisions.
IMPHOS does not have in-house research or
laboratory facilities. Instead, it achieves its objectives
by commissioning usually with short-term contracts, research
with competent organizations worldwide.
Two committees assist the decision-making
process within IMPHOS : the Agronomy and Technical Committee,
whose members come from IMPHOS member companies, and the Scientific
Advisory Committee, chaired by an independent scientist with
members who are specialists in the Committee's field of interest.
